Our Services

Washington Parish Council on Aging provides various services to promote independence and improve the overall welfare for seniors in Washington Parish. Our services encompass senior nutrition, medical services, group activities, and assistance with everyday tasks.

Available services and frequently asked questions are outlined below.


Nutrition Services

Congregate Nutrition

We provide one nutritionally-balanced meal in a group setting five days per week at our Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites. Meals must be ordered by 12:00 p.m. the day before you plan to attend.

Nutrition Education

This program promotes better health by providing accurate and culturally-sensitive nutrition, physical fitness, and/or health information as it relates to nutrition and physical health.

Home Delivered Meals

Five nutritionally-balanced frozen meals are delivered to persons aged 60 and above each week. Individuals must be temporarily or chronically homebound. Priority is given to low income and greatest social need individuals.

Medical Services

In addition to these services, we can provide transportation to and from medical appointments. Click here for more information.

Offers support services to individuals caring for a relative or loved one. Services include Information and Assistance, and In-Home Respite Care.

Caregiver Support Program

Medicare Part D Counseling

Individuals aged 60 and above who have questions concerning Medicare Part D or who need assistance in enrolling in a Medicare Part D plan can schedule an appointment for assistance.

Medical Alerts

Provides an emergency response system (ERS) to qualified low-income older individuals through Acadian On Call. We can assist you with setting up an alert system at a discounted rate.


Everyday Wellness

Homemaker Service

Provides assistance to persons having difficulty with one or more instrumental activities of daily living, such as preparing meals, shopping, and light housekeeping.

Recreation & Activities

We host individual and group activities such as bingo, handicrafts, general interest programs, educational and religious activities, and special events at our Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites.

Information & Assistance

This is a service for older individuals that provides current information on opportunities and services available within our community, and assist with linking individuals to available resources.

Telephoning Service

Homebound individuals can receive pre-arranged daily telephone calls to provide comfort, assistance, support, and safety.

Entergy Assistance

We are offering assistance to Entergy clients through a program called Beat the Heat. This is for clients who are 60 and above or disabled that are getting disconnected and live in Washington Parish.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Any person aged 60 years or older residing in Washington Parish is eligible to receive our services. Some programs give priority to low-income, isolated, or homebound individuals.

  • Individuals are given an opportunity to make a contribution toward the cost of their services. Contributions are voluntary and confidential. Several services such as Transportation, Home-Delivered Meals, and Congregate Meals have suggested contribution amounts.
